Biebs

There are many things to wonder about Justin Bieber. Why does he always look like there is massive wind at the back of his head? How long did he practice saying "shawty" to get it just right? How is he not a lesbian? Why can't I get Baby out of my head? Would his dance moves woo a 12 year old girl? A 25 year old girl? If you have the time and patience to ponder these questions too, please watch this video and see if you can't employ some of his dance moves (particularly the INCREDIBLY slow pool table roll) in your own life.

Wisdom from the Kids

For those unawares, I tutor weekly at this place called 826 Chicago and this week I was managing the writing table, where kids come in and do a writing exercise before they start their homework. Because there is an upcoming Tom Hanks fundraiser on the horizon (it's called Prom Hanks), the kids were supposed to write life similes, a la "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get."

I spent a long, torturous time coming up with examples for them (with assistance from my new friend potential).

Our best: Life is like a pirate ship because everyone is on the look-out for booty.

Kid bests:
-Life is like a math book because it's full of lots of problems, but some of the answers are in the back.
-Life is like a booger, totally gross.
-Life is like Lady Gaga because its style is always changing.
-Life is like pizza, you can put whatever you want on it.

Woman On The Beach

Here is a woman who Sophie and I spied today. She came up from behind us and seemed like a regular old runner until she began jogging past and dropped a small plastic or rubber ball on the ground. We of course assumed she was going to play with a dog and looked around for a furry friend. But there was none. Instead she proceeded to dribble the ball down the beach. There was a moment in which the ball went down into the water and Sophie and I both thought, "uh-oh." But in fact, there was no trouble at all because she just went right in there and kept on dribbling. Who knows what kind of shoes she had on. Anyway, she went down the beach and back and unfortunately when we caught her on camera, her jog had relaxed into a walk. Still hilarious!

Rosehill Cemetery

The other day it was very sunny out and I wanted to go for a walk. I prefer to walk and run in places where there aren't other people. As I once told Sophie, I like private places in public. So I decided to take a walk around the cemetery that's near our house. On the whole, I encountered only two other people: one with a dog and one with a baby in a stroller. I took some nice photos, saw some animals and wrote a poem. I think I will be coming here very often.
